A Life That Continues to Be Loved
On July 20, 2012, Jessica "Jessi" Redfield Ghawi was one of twelve people murdered in the mass shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. She was 24 years old, an aspiring sports journalist known for her warmth and her way with words.
In the aftermath, Jessi's parents, Sandy and Lonnie Phillips, found there was no roadmap for the grief they were living through — and no one reaching out to help. So they built what they couldn't find: Survivors Empowered, an organization founded in Jessi's honor to support survivors, families, and friends forever changed by gun violence.
Jessi's Messages carries her name forward. Each card in the collection is written for the moments words are hardest to find — a friend who lost someone, an anniversary of loss that arrives quietly, a person who just needs to know they're not alone.
